Services and pricing
How much does it cost?
It depends on the type and complexity of your return. Prices start at $50, and we always talk price before we start.
See pricingCan you prepare returns from previous years?
Yes. If you're behind on filing, we can help you catch up, including several years of outstanding returns. If you owe, CRA adds a late-filing penalty and interest, so sooner is better.
Do you prepare self-employed and rental returns?
Yes. We prepare personal returns for people with self-employment income, business expenses and rental income.
Can you help with CRA letters and notices?
Yes. If a letter or notice from the CRA has you puzzled, we'll help you understand it and work out the next steps.
What happens if the CRA reviews or audits my return?
We offer an optional service called North Star Tax Assurance for $20 per return when you file with us. It covers up to three years of help and representation if the CRA reviews or audits that return, subject to the service terms and the required authorization. Without Tax Assurance, representation is $75 per hour.
Taxes 101
When is the tax deadline?
For most people it's April 30. If you or your spouse or common-law partner are self-employed, you have until June 15 to file, but any balance owing is still due on April 30.
How long until I get my refund?
We're EFILE certified, so your return goes to the CRA electronically, and the refund usually arrives within about two weeks. Paper returns take about eight. Direct deposit is the fastest way to get it.
Do I need to file if I had no income?
If you want your benefits, yes. The Canada Child Benefit, the Ontario Trillium Benefit and other federal and provincial credits are all worked out from your return. Seniors need to file to keep the Guaranteed Income Supplement coming, too.
Can you do my spouse's return as well?
Yes, and it usually works out better that way. A couple's returns fit together: some credits can move to whoever saves more, and eligible pension income can be split between you.
Is my information kept confidential?
Yes. What you share is kept confidential and used only to prepare and file your return.

Still have questions?
Taxes don't have to be stressful. Filing for the first time, catching up on past years, or not sure where to start? We're here to help.
